Designing from the Inside Out

Faculty-Led Design Studio | University of Oregon

The Post was a faculty-led interior architecture design studio exploring how thoughtful interior design can shape the success of affordable multifamily housing. Inspired by my professional "designing from the inside out" methodology—developed through the design of more than 5,000 residential units across major West Coast markets—the studio challenged students to approach housing from the resident's experience first, allowing interior planning and community needs to inform the architecture.

As Studio Instructor, I developed the curriculum and directed students through a design process modeled after professional practice. Working from an established building massing for a proposed Eugene Riverfront development, students explored branding, apartment layouts, amenity spaces, lighting, wayfinding, materials, and building systems while balancing affordability, accessibility, durability, and long-term resident well-being. My role was to mentor, critique, and guide the design process, helping students integrate creative thinking with the technical requirements of multifamily housing.
